Lit List | March Reads

March 31, 2017

My pick for March’s Lit List, With God’s Strength, is an awesome book about the movement, Pro Ecclesia Sancta (PES – For the Holy Church) and the life of its founder, Fr. Pablo Menor.

This book delves into the beginnings of the movement, its mission and the life of its founder – who is an incredible and holy man and his drive to live for the Lord blows me away!

A bit of background about this book and how I even came across it to read it…

During fall 2015 I was inquiring about marriage prep opportunities for my hubby and I during our year of engagement at local parishes. We wanted to have a dynamic year of preparation and really delve into the “behind-the-scenes” of marriage. We wanted to be PREPARED! We learned that we can only be so prepared and that most often… experience is the best way to learn!

That fall, I met with someone who headed up the young adults group with a small committee at a local parish and she was explaining the PES to me that she and other young adults leaders are a part of and involved in. She was telling me how it meets at this beautiful old home for pastoral opportunities, events, adoration, etc. Needless to say, it sounded awesome, but I was still confused. What is this? How does it work?

She invited my husband and I to come and check out their events. Unfortunately, conflicts would come up and we couldn’t make it. I finally made an adoration night in January 2016 that was hosted Thursday nights and it was incredible. It was intimate, a wonderful group of people and the religious brothers, sisters & priests were out of this world friendly and holy! I continued going with girlfriends and David joined me as the school year wrapped up for him when he graduated.

My husband and I started spiritual direction and continually went to Thursday night adoration hour leading up to our wedding in August 2016. It was such a powerful experience to have such guidance as we prepared to start our primary vocation and continues to be the biggest blessing of our marriage! The community has become like a family to us and the support network of incredible, holy, beautiful men and women of God is such a blessing to us. It’s such a gift to serve the Church alongside such dynamic people!

We were invited to join the formational program group, St. John Paul II, for young adults and we meet 1x/month to go over important topics that shape the foundation of the movement: holiness. We are so thankful to be a part of the lay movement of PES, The Catholic Advance Movement, and it is truly what helps shape our marriage and is a continual reminder that all that we do is for God’s glory!

Now, as I’m writing this, I find that this is all rather a hodge podge of experiences and ideas… but that’s truly how it all came together. It was through invites and personal experiences that we came across this incredible community.
Had it not been for the individual that I met with and for her continual invites and reminders, we would have never experienced such an impactful community that truly shapes our faith and helps to keep us on the path to holiness!

So, not only do I highly recommend reading this book to learn more about PES, but I also invite you to join us for adoration nights on Thursday nights! Seriously. Contact me if you’d like to learn more!

Have a beautiful Friday, dear readers!
