Musings | Word of the Year

January 3, 2016

2016 is a big year.

I’m beyond excited, but I also know that it means I need to be specific & present.

When I thought about what my word for this year would be, it didn’t take me too long to settle on intention.

I want to practice intention in my relationships, daily living, work and choices. It is so easy for me to constantly be planning and looking ahead. There is so much good ahead, but there is so much good right now.

It is so easy to slip into the mindset of “If I do this now, then that will be better later”. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy planning, color-coding calendars and organizing things. It’s a great skill and has helped me in a variety of situations! But, it can get out of hand with perfectionism and expectations that simply don’t work well with the happenings of daily life. I can easily miss out on what’s taking place currently when I’m so focused on what needs to get done next.

Intentionality with my time, my relationships, my faith & my work requires me to set aside perfectionism and expectations and to be present. I want to savor the changes, the little things, the big things and the crazy things that this next year will bring.

What is your word for this year? How do you practice intentionality in your daily life?
